Five Things Women in Their Late 30s and 40s Are Secretly Craving Right Now
There's something happening for a lot of women right now.
It's a deep, persistent craving for something they can feel but can't always name.
Not more stuff. Not another achievement. Something deeper than both.
And the more women I connect with, the more I realize how many of us are craving the exact same things — and how few of us are actually saying it out loud.
So here it is. Out loud.
1. They Want to Feel Proud of Themselves
Not for what they
did for everyone else.
For something they
chose. For themselves. Right now.
This one hits the
deepest.
After years of
pouring into the kids, the home, the relationship, the career — something
inside starts quietly asking: when do I get to feel proud of something I
chose for me?
And let me be clear
— this isn't about discounting everything you've already done. You have so much
to be proud of. The life you've built, the people you've raised, the things
you've carried. That's real.
But this is a
different feeling.
This is: what am
I proud of right now, today, that I'm doing for myself? A goal you're
chasing. A habit you're building. A version of yourself you're actively
becoming.
That's the feeling.
That's what's missing for so many women in this season.
Women in their 40s
don't just want to be needed anymore. They want to be growing. Building
something. Looking at their life and feeling genuinely proud of the choices
they're making — not just the roles they're filling.
That desire is not
something to push aside.
That's your next
chapter knocking.
2. They Want Their Energy Back
The kind where life feels manageable and fun again. The kind where you feel like yourself — capable, present, alive. The kind where you can show up fully for the people you love and still have something left for yourself.
For a long time the assumption was that exhaustion was just part of the season. Busy mom. Full life. Of course you're tired.
But there's a difference between the tired that comes from a full life and the tired that lives underneath everything — the kind that sleep doesn't fix.
Getting my hormones checked changed everything for me. Starting HRT lifted a fog I didn't even fully realize I was living in. If you've been feeling that kind of tired, it's worth paying attention to. Your body might be asking for something it's not getting yet.
3. They Want Something That Belongs to Them
Not a role. Not a responsibility. Not another thing on the list they're doing for someone else.
Something that reminds them they're still a person with interests, goals, and dreams that are entirely their own.
For me that looked like running, joining a gym, and investing in my health in a way that was genuinely just for me. Not to perform for anyone. Not to check a box. Because I wanted to feel strong and alive in my own body again.
And somewhere along the way the guilt of taking up space in my own life just faded.
You are allowed to have something that's yours. Something that lights you up. Something that exists completely outside of what everyone else needs from you.
That's not selfish. That's necessary.
4. They Want to Feel Mentally Clear Again
Present. Focused. Like themselves.
This is one of the things I hear most from women in this season — and one of the things I felt most deeply myself. Everything just felt harder than it should. Thinking, deciding, focusing, remembering.
For a long time the only way to describe it was: I just don't feel like myself anymore.
Once hormones were addressed and the mental load started getting out of my head and onto paper, the clarity started coming back. And with it — that feeling of being back in the driver's seat of my own life.
If you've been saying those same words — I don't feel like myself — that sentence is worth paying attention to. You deserve to feel clear, energized, and fully present in your own life.
5. They Want Confidence That Comes From Becoming
The kind that comes from keeping promises to yourself. From doing hard things. From choosing growth when it would have been so much easier to stay comfortable.
That kind of confidence has to be built. And it is so worth building.
For me it looked like starting HRT and feeling the fog lift. Walking onto a gym floor that completely intimidated me — and going back anyway. Stepping into things that scared me a little and discovering I was more capable than I'd been giving myself credit for.
Every single time a promise was kept to myself, that confidence grew.
That's what so many women are craving right now. Not to be told they're doing a great job. Proof — from themselves — that they are still capable of growing into something even better.
This Is the Part Where You Start Choosing Yourself
If any of these resonated — if something stirred while you were reading — pay attention to that feeling.
That's you, waking up. Knowing there's more — and that you are absolutely worth the effort it takes to go after it.
The energy. The clarity. The thing that belongs to you. The confidence. The pride in your own choices.
All of it is available to you. Right now. In this season. Exactly as you are.
This is the part where you stop waiting and start choosing yourself.
Maybe for the first time in a long time.
And if you're ready — pull up a chair.
You belong here. 🤍
If this resonated with you, save it and send it to a woman who needs to read it. The more we talk about this, the more normal it becomes — and that's how things actually change.
