41 Things I’ve Learned About Midlife (So Far)

Today is my 41st birthday, and I’ve been thinking a lot about this season of life.

After going through perimenopause, in my late 30s — and not even realizing I was in it — it actually feels really good to be in a place where I’m taking steps to feel better… and creating a space to share that with other women too.

Midlife isn’t what I thought it would be.

In my early 30s, I assumed this phase would feel easy.
Then it didn’t.
And I knew something had to shift.

So I went on a journey to find answers.
They didn’t come from one place.
And I’m still learning.
But I’ve been doing the work, asking questions,
and figuring out what actually helps.

I’ve learned a lot along the way.

And the more I talk about it, the more I realize —
we’re all kind of figuring this out together.

So here are 41 things I’ve learned so far:

🌿 The Realizations

  1. A lot of women don’t actually know what perimenopause is.
  2. A lot of women are walking around not feeling like themselves — and don’t know why.
  3. Brain fog is real… and it’s not “just being busy.”
  4. Exhaustion hits differently in midlife.
  5. Hormones impact far more than we were ever taught.
  6. You can feel “off” long before menopause ever starts.

🩺 The Hard Truths (and the Hope)

  1. Some doctors still aren’t listening.
  2. Some doctors are changing everything for women.
  3. You might have to advocate for yourself.
  4. You might have to find a new provider — and that’s okay.
  5. HRT isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution.
  6. It can take time to find what works.
  7. Adjustments are part of the process.
  8. Going back and asking more questions is part of the process too.
  9. Support exists — sometimes you just have to look for it.

🌿 What Actually Helped Me

  1. HRT helped me — but it wasn’t the only thing.
  2. Regulating my nervous system changed more than I expected.
  3. Getting everything out of my head made a huge difference.
  4. I can’t carry it all mentally anymore — and I don’t need to.
  5. Simpler systems work better than complicated ones.
  6. Walking is underrated.
  7. Sleep matters more than ever.
  8. Doing less can actually make you feel better.

💛 The Identity Shifts

  1. I am not the same woman I was in my 20s.
  2. I’m not even the same woman I was five years ago.
  3. And I don’t want to be.
  4. Changing your mind is part of growth.
  5. Alignment matters more than appearances.
  6. I don’t need to prove anything anymore.
  7. I trust myself more now than I ever have.

👩‍👧‍👦 Motherhood in Midlife

  1. The mental load is real.
  2. It feels heavier in this season — and that makes sense.
  3. My kids don’t need perfection — they need a regulated mom.
  4. Taking care of myself makes me a better mom.
  5. I can be present and still have a life outside of motherhood.

❤️ Marriage & Life

  1. Marriage in midlife is a new chapter — and it’s a good one.
  2. There’s a different kind of connection that comes with time.
  3. Slowing down together feels really good.
  4. There is so much beauty in this stage of life.
  5. Watching your kids grow is both grounding and expansive at the same time.

The Biggest One

    41. Midlife is about supporting yourself better — and coming back to what you love. For me, it’s            been running, reaching goals with my husband, being the best version of myself for me and my kids,       and writing and creating — the best therapy I’ve found.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this:

Nothing is “wrong” with you.

You might just need a different kind of support than you're used to.

This season isn’t about pushing harder.
It’s about listening more closely.
Adjusting.
Realigning.

And actually building a life that feels good to live.

If you’re in this season too — you’re not alone.

Talk about it.
Share what you’re learning.
Ask questions.

We’re all figuring this out together.

And honestly…
there’s a lot of beauty here.
